Chinese zonnepaneelfabrikant op rand van bankroet
AMSTERDAM – De Chinese wafer- en zonnepaneelfabrikant LDK Solar staat op de rand van faillissement. Het bedrijf heeft een slechte balanspositie met te veel schuld en ondervindt nu last van de Amerikaanse importheffing op zonnepanelen.
Aandelen van LDK hebben een duikvlucht genomen de afgelopen weken door de extra belasting op Chinese zonnepanelen in de VS en geruchten over een aanstaand bankroet. Over het afgelopen kwartaal rapporteerde het bedrijf een verlies van maar liefst 589 miljoen dollar.
LDK was ooit het voorbeeld voor de Chinese zonnesector en was een tijd een van de grootste spelers wereldwijd in de sector. Onlangs maakte het bedrijf al bekend 6000 werknemers te moeten ontslaan.
Hoogtepunt
Het Chinese bedrijf had op het hoogtepunt in juli ongeveer 28.000 werknemers. Dit nam al gestaag af nadat de prijs van wafers met 35 procent daalde. Vanaf eind 2011 heeft LDK nog eens 22 procent van de werknemers ontslagen tot 19.195 werknemers.
Naast de productie van zonnepanelen is LDK Solar een producent van zogenaamde wafers, de dunne plakken van silicium waar zonnepanelen uit bestaan.
